Brussels Airport has just inaugurated the renovated Skyhall. This gigantic hall will be a new event hall, with space for 3000 people. 

The Skyhall was inaugurated in June 1958 as a new terminal to receive the many foreign visitors to the world exhibition Expo 58. The original design is by the architects Maxime Brunfaut, Geo Bontinck and Joseph Moutschen. At that time, the construction of the transit hall was a technical challenge: an area 100 metres long, 55 metres wide and 18 metres high was spanned with an arched aluminium roof structure. Remarkable was also the large glass wall overlooking the runways.

The Skyhall no longer met the current standards and comfort requirements of an airport and was therefore no longer used. Brussels Airport decided to renovate the hall, while retaining its original character. In this project it was particularly important to preserve the original appearance and iconic ceiling while using modern and energy-efficient materials. For example, a heat recovery system and LED lighting ensured that the complex was modernised in an ecologically manner.

Eribel installed the joinery for this project: 2 long glass walls of 20 and 40m and 6 doors, all fire resistant and acoustic.
